Huli wigman with painted ancestral skulls, Papua New Guinea (April 2014)
In the dense forest these wigmen maintain a small structure filled with their ancestors’ skulls from which they gain their prognosticative powers. During ceremonies they paint themselves in the same gold and red that they have painted the skulls to reconnect with the dead.
