Long-Eared Owlets Notecard

Covered in fluffy down, these young long-eared owls (Asio otus) are just beginning to develop distinctive plumage on their facial discs. They still sport short feathery nubs rather than the ear tufts that will identify them as mature long-eared owls. Long-eared owlets typically climb out of their nest onto nearby branches at about three weeks old but often stay close to their siblings. They may make short flights after about five weeks.
