Mundari Dawn

A Mundari tends to his cattle at dawn. Central Equatoria, South Sudan (September 2021)

To the Mundari, a small ethnic group in Southern Sudan, Ankole-Watusi cattle are the sacred source of life, wealth, and social status. Mundari sometimes rub themselves in ash from burnt dung and bleach their hair with cattle urine. Dowries are paid in cattle, and a man with enough cattle can have multiple wives.
