Kayapo Elder

Kayapo elder portrait with large lip plate indicating great standing within the tribe. Kapoto Village, Para State, Brazil (August 1993)

The Kayapo of the Xingu River Region in Brazil work with conservationists to protect the rainforest. Their melodic songs and chants are acts of faith that lift their spirits, give them courage, and draw them close to the spirits of their forest world.
