Star Trails over Cereus Cactus

Isla de Pescado, Salar de Uyuni, Altiplano, Bolivia

Isla de Pescado (Fish Island) lies in the middle of the ancient lake bed of Salar de Uyuni at 3,350 meters (11,000 feet) on Bolivia’s Altiplano. Beautiful candelabra-shaped Trichocereus (cereus) cactus are more than 900 years old. During the long exposure, I walked from cactus to cactus, illuminating each one with light from a headlamp.

As seen in Art Wolfe’s Travels to the Edge.
